The new Underbelly Razor series is the 4th in the Underbelly franchise which depicts crime, drugs and lust over different times in Australia. The latest edition Razor is set back in Sydney in the 1920s, when women were beautiful, men were gentleman and crime was rampant in an underground sort of way.
Funnily enough the one reason I decided to start watching the most recent series is because of the fashion. I saw the sneak peaks and advertisements and fell in love with the quintessential style of the 1920s.
I have learnt a lot about the fashion back then just from watching the show which has been fun. I have always been interested in 60s and 70s fashion but don’t know a lot about fashion earlier than the 50s so it has been a fun learning experience.
From what I have gathered from watching the show (and from attending the Dreaming of Chanel exhibition) is that the 1920s was all about accessories. Hats, gloves, long necklaces, scarves, bags- women who had money were happy to flaunt it.
A lot of the clothing consisted of rich materials like fur, silk, satin. The dresses in Underbelly remind me of peignoirs very lingerie looking.
Hope you enjoyed this post and check out the show if you haven’t already
