Guest Post: Sadie from What Sadie Did

Sadie is one of the many lovely ladies I have met through blogging. She is from NZ but originally from the UK and loves fashion. Check out here lovely blog here

I am also guest blogging over at her blog today so go and check it out!

1.Tell us a little bit about yourself...

Hi, my name's Sadie from What Sadie Did. I'm a bit of a fashion addict and lately my addiction has spread to craft swaps and DIYs! I blame blog land!
I'm originally from Wales in the UK but have been living in New Zealand with my boyfriend for the past two years.
2. What are your blogging goals?

My main goal is just to continue enjoying it. I love reading new blogs and discovering new blog buddies. That's by far the best thing about blogging. I have several blogs that I follow every single day and feel like I am actually 'friends' with these people that I've never even met!

3. Do you have any hobbies?

Other than blogging, I spend a lot of time crafting. I get addicted to a particular thing, for example this week I learnt how to make fabric yo-yo flowers, and make loads of it and then forget all about it when something new comes along. What a flakey crafter I must sound! I also freelance as a writer, travel quite a bit and eat out far too much.

4. What is one of your favourite items in your wardrobe and why?

One of the things I have worn most out of my whole wardrobe is my tan leather cowboy style boots by Bronx. I originally bought them from TK Maxx about five years ago for something like 35 pounds...I lived in them. They went everywhere with me. Then they died! I spent ages trawling eBay for an identical pair last January when I was in the UK for Christmas and found someone selling the exact same boot in Europe in my size, brand new!! I snapped them up, and with the ash cloud that screwed up a lot of things in Europe at that time, it was touch and go as to whether they would be delivered before I left for NZ. They were, and now I've had another 14 months of boot wearing so far!

5.If you could have one dream purchase, what would it be?

Right now, a quilted Chanel handbag. I don't think this needs any explanation!! ;)

Style Icon : Nina Proudman from Offspring

For all of my non-Australian readers you will not be familiar with the show Offspring or the amazing character Nina Proudman played by Asher Keddie (above right). For me she is slowly becoming a huge fashion inspiration with her bohemian style outfits and carefree attitude to fashion.
It always appears like she just threw on whatever was lying around and made it somehow look spectacular. Nina is really big on vests, scarves, vintage style bags, florals and mis-matched prints.
I am in love with her effortless style and can’t wait to see more. Such an inspiration!
She is also an avid collector of owls- check these ones out so adorable!

Guest Post: Spunky Chateau

This week, Ilana asked me to do a guest post. First of all, I’m really thrilled and honored that she would ask me. As I’m sure you know if you’re reading this, she has a great blog and loves vintage and thrifting. Since she knows I love thrifting too, she wanted me to discuss that a little here.

I’ve been thrifting since I was a little kid. Through all the various phases I’ve gone through, thrift stores have helped me dress the way I wanted to dress and save a lot of money. Since starting my blog, Spunky Chateau, I've used it as a way to encourage people to try thrifting and talk about my finds. I've always thought thrifting was good for everyone-you're saving money, recycling and in lots of cases supporting a local charity. So in an effort to further that idea, I recently started a 'Thursdays are for Thrifters' link party where people can link to their thrifted finds and outfits. I've received several comments that people have looked back over a feature I wrote a feature for my blog several months ago, 15 Tips for Thrift Store Shopping, to get some ideas on how to start thrifting.

So, for today's post I want to ellaborate a little on one of my tips: having an open mind. I've heard people argue that you can shop for one specific item at a thrift store, but I've always found looking specifically for one item to be a tall order. Instead, I go in with an open mind and a strong idea of my personal style. If you don't consider your own style and what will work well with what's already in your closet, you're likely to buy anything just because it's inexpensive. Having lots of clothes you won't wear doesn't help you. Instead, scan aisles for items that jump out at you, that you know you can wear with accessories you already own and be open to the possibilities that exist within those confines. You don't want to buy things you know you won't wear, but thrifting is your opportunity to experiment with clothes. Try a look you've always wanted to. You can afford it when you're thrifting.

With the idea that thrifting allows you to experiment with looks but that you should aim to buy things that fit within the spectrum of your specific style and that can be paired with things you already own, here's what I found this week:
Vintage Hat: $5.
Bag: $3.

Vintage Handmade Dress: $5.
Dress: $4.

Blouse: $6.

Vintage Leather Bag: $4.

Dress: $4. (Ignore the cat toys on the floor, sorry.)

Vintage Dress: $4.
I feel like these are all items I can work seamlessly into my closet and wear with things I already own, and that to me, makes it a successful trip.

Going to the Fete and a little flower

maxi1
I actually wore this outfit last Sunday to my little brothers fete. He originally went early but was sick after going on a ride so we took him back quickly in the afternoon so he could go in the Haunted House.
Sadly enough I felt a bit dressy in this. Most people were wearing track pants, track tops and sneakers or thongs.
Really looking forward to the weekend – need a good sleep in! It is getting really cold in the mornings now so its really hard to get up so early every day.
Next week my best friend is leaving to move to Adelaide so sad! We are going to go out on her last day here next week and do some vintage shopping in Paddington and West End.
Can’t wait for that but will totally miss Chantelle!
Will be taking heaps of photos can’t wait.

My first lot of handmade jewelry and hair accessories

Here are some of the things I made over the weekend.
Having so much fun making pretty little things. I have ordered heaps more beads and things as I am really loving making earrings. I eventually want to get more creative and fancy but this is ok for a beginner I think. Some of these items are now up in my Etsy Shop. The rest I will probably keep for myself or give away as gifts to family and friends.

Let me know what you think :)
