Interview with Kaylee of Wild Flower

1) Why did you decide to become a blogger and create Wild Flower?

Before Wild Flower started I was posting pictures on Chictopia and Lookbook almost daily. Although those sites are awesome, I really wanted a place of my own. A place where I could start to DIY's and inspiration posts. Wild Flower was, and is still, just what I need!

2) How would you describe your style?

Always such a tough question. Honestly my style changes on a daily basis. Just the other day I was wearing a crochet crop top with a beautiful pair of wide leg/high waisted jeans, so boho! Then today I really wanted to wear my favorite floral dress with my cherry Dr. Martens and my favorite vintage rosary, much more of underground London sort of look... but I also have my really girl days too, pastel florals and heels. It's amazing how my style moves all over the board but I still manage to stay true to who I am.

3) What influences your style choices?

You! All of you, I probably spend an hour a day going through other blogs and style sights. I also pull inspiration from a few stars like Taylor Swift, Zooey Deschanel, Alexa Chung (of course!), Kate Winslet... just to name a few.

4) Do you have a favourite fashion blogger at the moment?

I do yes! I recently ran into the blog, A Beautiful Mess, by two lovely sisters  Elsie and Emma. Everything about their blog screams amazing. The outfits, the photography, the DIY posts, the whole thing is organized so beautifully, hopefully one day Wild Flower will be like that!

5) Where are your favourite places to shop for your amazing wardrobe?

If money was not an issue all the time I would say Modcloth, TopShop, Madewell, and Anthropologie. In reality though I buy most my clothes from H&M, Forever21, and Urban Outfitters.

6) Why do you love England so much? Have you ever been there?

Haha, picked up on that eh? Yes I have been once, I went with my mom, seriously most wonderful experience ever. Even before that though I had a pretty strong obsession with the country. Where I grew up we hardly ever got rain and I was so intrigued by the idea of rain every day! Even now I'm still extremely excited when it's going to rain. I think the whole thing started when I read a book about Henry VIII, I didn't really know too much about British royalty, but now I'm an expert! Oh and tea! I love tea and whenever I get together with my mom we make it a point to try and find a place for high tea, yum! Also, who doesn't love a boy with a sexy british accent? ;)

7) Where do you see yourself in a few years time?

Hopefully graduated from college and starting a real life with my current boyfriend, Zach. Even though we live together now we are still under the wings of our loving parents. I'm not sure where I want to go career wise, but I'm ready for where ever the wind takes me. And as for Wild Flower I hope she will still be alive and thriving. I have never accomplished anything like her before and I love how it makes me feel when I am motivated enough to head out with my tripod and camera or when I learn a new HTML trick for my layout.

Interviews and Mary Poppins

  • Dress by Jacqui E
  • Bag by Fossil
  • Burgundy Wedges by Naturalizer
Hi Friends how has your week been? This week has been crazy busy for me with working, getting over my flu and interviews! I had a little time after finishing work on Tuesday to do some shopping at Brisbane’s Direct Factory Outlet (DFO) which was awesome as I got this amazing Fossil bag for $50 off the RRP!

I have been looking for a large carpet style vintage looking bag for ages and this was it. Not that I travel but if I did this would also be a perfect little carry on as it fits so much into it.

When I saw this bag for some reason it reminded me of Mary Poppins and her huge doctors style bag and umbrella as she comes floating down from the clouds.

Another interview today and then work straight after. There is surely no rest for the wicked!

All in the details

Everybody knows that I’m not a huge accessories person. I used to be hence why I have millions of costume necklaces, fashion scarves, berets and the like.

However like anything, my style changes constantly. Lately I have felt more drawn to accessories probably due to inspiration from some of my favourite bloggers who wear cute detachable collars and bib necklaces on a daily basis.

I looked high and low for a detachable crochet collar and finally came across one at Chicwish! So happy I bought it as I am planning on wearing it with plain tops and cute dresses in the winter. They have a few different styles one is more lacy so I am planning on getting that one too!

Finally feeling like a normal human again! Got 2 more job interviews this week too. I have a job now but it is always good to keep up your interviewing skills I say!

Inspiration Monday: My Favourite Bloggers

There are many reasons I started this blog. One reason was because I was working in admin which is great in its own way but can be incredibly dry and devoid of creativity. Being a highly creative person I wanted to give myself an outlet where I can express myself through fashion, craft and other things I love.

The second reason was due to being so inspired by other bloggers. Before I started this blog I only read a few personal style blogs namely Liebmarlene, Lulu Letty, The Clothes Horse and Calivintage (pics in order of sources)

I loved how each of these girls was able to mix fashionable items with vintage or thrifted goods and make stunning outfits out of them. These blogs will forever be my number one faves and the inspiration for My Modern Vintage.

It’s funny because I read sooo many blogs now that sometimes it is overwhelming! It is crazy how many amazing style blogs are out there and I have made some lovely friends along the way from blogging (Sadie, Cait and Marisa to name a few!)

What inspired you to start blogging and what are your favourite blogs? Leave the links below so I can check them out!

Hey guys sorry for the lack of posting this week. It seems my little absence even cost me 2 followers but that’s ok I’m not complaining!

I am still really sick and have just come down with conjunctivitis so I won’t be posting any more outfit pics until I am well and truly better. Just started my new job this week too and it has been terrible being so sick and trying to learn many new things.

Anyway though as I wasn’t posting any outfit pics I might show you guys some of my fave styles at the moment. I am really loving florals with brights but also subdued Autumn tones which are very popular in Australia right now.

And as you all know I can’t resist a great print, stripe or polka dot. That heart print sweater in pic 2 is just calling my name!

Have a nice weekend everyone

White Chocolate Mud Cupcakes & Bailey’s Frosting by Guest Writer Sweet Jems

Aloha, I am the writer of the blog Sweet Jems. My name is Jemmah and I am an Aussie Army wife living in Hawaii for the next few years.
My blog is all about my sweet adventures featuring anything sweet from cake, cookies, Jam, cake pops, fondant modelling and most importantly, my favourite, the one and only cup cake.

I have known Ilana for so many years now, and since starting my blog, only a short time ago, she has been an amazing inspiration and help to me. Ilana is such a beautiful person with an amazing talent and I can’t thank her enough for allowing me to feature one of my recipes on her blog for you to check out

When coming up with a recipe to be featured, I knew it had to be simple but show stopping. So I came up with the never fail White chocolate mud cupcake with Bailey’s Irish Cream Frosting.

White chocolate is something that you either love or hate. Me personally, I'm not a fan. However when baked into a cupcake, it seems to take on a completely different taste, and I just love how it turns out! With the teaming up of the Bailey's frosting, it just makes you want to go back for more, time and time again! This recipe can be a little time consuming and messy to make, but are well worth it in the end.

White Chocolate Mud Cupcakes & Bailey’s Frosting
  • Makes 12-18 cupcakes
  • Prep time:- 20 mins Cooking time:- 20-30 mins
For the cupcakes:
  • 125g butter, chopped coarsely
  • 80g White Chocolate, chopped coarsely
  • 1 cup granulated/caster sugar
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup plain flour
  • ½ cup self-raising flour
  • 1 egg
Preheat oven to 170 degrees C (340 degrees F) and place 12-18 cupcake papers in the cupcake pan.
Stir butter, chocolate, sugar and milk in a medium saucepan over low heat until smooth. Transfer to a medium bowl and let cool for 15 minutes. Whisk sifted flours into the chocolate mixture and then add the egg.
Use a piping bag or batter dispenser to distribute the batter into cupcake papers evenly – approx ¼ to ½ way filled.
Bake for 20 – 30 mins until lightly coloured on top. Skewer or cake tester will come out of cake clean when complete. Stand cakes in pans for 5 mins before transferring to wire rack to cool completely before icing.

For the Baileys Frosting:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 tablespoons Bailey’s Irish Cream

Using the whisk attachment of a stand mixer, whip the butter on medium-high speed for 5 minutes, scraping the sides of the bowl occasionally. Reduce the speed to medium-low and gradually add the powdered sugar until all of it is incorporated. Add the vanilla and Baileys, increase the speed to medium-high and whip for another 2 to 3 minutes, until it is light and fluffy.

Colour Blocking with Purple and Burgundy

  • Target Skinny jeans in Burgundy
  • Purple top by Portmans (thrifted)
  • Pink and black necklace (I think Target not sure?)
  • Pink beaded bracelet- gift from my brother Josh
  • Sparkly flats via BrandsExclusive
  • Jane Bag by Nancybird

My two fave colours to colour block with right now are purple and red but the closet thing I had were these burgundy jeans so they had to make do. I have to admit that I was pretty impressed with the way the outfit turned out. I accessorised with bright pink jewellery and sparkly flats.

I also painted my nails and did the tips purple with a coat of OPI Teenage Dream over the top. They look super pretty and I was happy with how it turned out.

I start my new job tomorrow which is exciting I can’t wait to see how it goes. I went to pick up a dress from their today to work in tomorrow so I will try to get some pics up tomorrow evening or the next day.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Inspiration Monday: Valfré Illustrations

What better way to start the week than with some funky and funny illustrations? I actually just came across Valfre over the weekend. I was drawn to the fashion drawings and funny quotes. The one above with the cat is SO me!

I would love to have a room full of these prints! Makes me wish I could draw like this. I used to be able to drawn anime and Pokemon back when I was younger but I rarely draw anymore.

Hope these bring you some enjoyment!
