Gorman Spring/Summer 2012 Lookbook

I don’t normally post too many lookbooks on my blog as so many other bloggers do this and I find it repetitive and frankly boring.

But there was no way I couldn’t share this! Gorman is one of my favourite Australian labels and I would pretty much kill to have an entire wardrobe of their lovely organic cotton clothing. I walked past the store in the city the other day and wanted to cry! If I had the money I seriously could have bought the entire store- this is definitely one of my favourite lookbooks I have seen so far for Spring/Summer 2012. Enjoy!

Sally Hansen salon effects nail polish review

Hi everyone here's my quick review of Sally Hansen's Salon Effects nail strips.
First up must say that I was happy with the price because I got two packs for $20! Also another good point is that the designs are gorgeous I've received so many compliments this week!

Some bad points
• the stickers are very thin and don't feel like good quality
• they are a bit difficult to get on without ripping
• they are NOT durable. I've used another brand and they lasted many weeks without coming off. These started coming off within a few hours even with clear polish over the top.

Overall I'd give this product 2/5 stars basically cause they are gorgeous but not very durable. The last pic are my nails after 4 days.
Hope you like my review please leave a comment!

wearing:  MinkPink Peppermint Patty Dress (from Modcloth); Grey tights from Myer; Silver Diana Ferrari Ballet Flats from Myer; necklace and bracelet both Xmas gifts

Oh the beautiful things to wear now that winter is pretty much gone. I have so many lovely dresses I bought during winter that aren’t really suitable for cold weather and this is one of them. Isn’t it seriously just the cutest dress ever!

Right now I have a bit of an obsession with mint and green I seem to be seeing it everywhere and this handbag is one of my new faves.

I wore this dress out shopping yesterday where as usual I went over my budget! Even though the Creeper trend was something I was totally hating I saw these not too crazy ones yesterday and thought why not try them on- OMG I was in love so decided to buy them. They look awesome with pretty much anything and are pretty much my new favourite shoes.

Here is a pic of them and you can buy them here

Would you try the Creeper trend??

Spring Fashion 2012

{outfit 1, outfit 2, outfit 3}

Here are some pretend outfits for the upcoming warmer months ahead. I am totally obsessed with wedge sandals but it is so hard to find ones to buy at the moment. Thinking of going either with a nude colour or black so hard to choose!

Which outfit do you love most?

Family Affairs Cry Baby Dress

wearing: Family Affairs Cry Baby Dress// thrifted straw bag // floral hair garland from diva// Seychelles Private Eye Oxfords from Amazon

I have been wanting to wear this dress for ages but it came to me in late Autumn and it is much more a spring summer dress so can’t wait to get more use out of it. The only issue now being that I have put on weight over winter (noooooo!) so it is a bit small around the empire waist section. Not to the point where I can’t wear it though thank God.

These are also my brand new Seychelles oxfords from Amazon. Pretty happy with them and the fit is great like all Seychelles products. I wanted to get some nude oxfords for Spring and these are perfect.

Hope you have a great weekend and don’t forget to leave me a comment!!!!

Makeup Review: Covergirl Outlast Lipstain

Hi readers. I normally don't do make-up reviews but this is something I am looking at doing more and more often if I can.

Anyway this weeks make-up review is on Covergirl Outlast Lipstain. I purchased this on sale for jus $10 at the local Priceline shop which was pretty good value.

In the photos I am wearing 415 Teasing Blush. It goes on quite dark but fades out nicely.

This is what is says on the Covergirl website: The water-based colorants of Outlast Lipstain give lips a beautiful, lightweight flush of color that won't come off, lasting for hours without the heavy look or feel of an ordinary lipstick. Its pen-like precision applicator makes it easy to define your lips — just draw on color without any hassle!

All in all I would say the top 3 things about this product are:

  1. the smell - it smells like a delicious fruit and not yucky like some lip colours
  2. the colour - I am really happy with the colour I chose and some of the others look nice to
  3. the size - the lipstain is compact and fits nicely into my bag or even pocket!

These are the things I don't like about it:

  1. the durability- The lipstain doesn't last for very long once I have had some water and food it is pretty much gone
  2. the dryness - It says to use on dry lips but I would suggest using it over a lip balm as it makes my lips sooo dry

Overall I would give this product 3 out of 5 Stars.

Hope this review helps you in deciding to buy or not to buy!

Doc Marten 1460 Review

Wearing: Printed tent dress from Katies// black tights from eBay// black tee from JeansWest// doc martens 1460 in vintage red//

I thought rather than a usual boring outfit post I would do a quick review on these amazing boots. I originally wanted docs to make my dresses appear less girly. They are also great for rainy weather and for outdoors too.

images (1)

I was originally afraid to get these as I had heard so many stories of people saying how horrible they are to break in. Personally I haven’t had too many issues they are sooo comfy but they do pull a bit at the heel area and also can hurt on the soles occasionally. I have only worn mine like 5 times now and I am finding them better after each wear.

These aren’t the $300 made in England ones they were $189.95 from Shoe Link. The service was great and I got the shoes really quickly plus they do free returns if the shoe doesn’t fit. I originally ordered the size 7UK but they only had them in a 6.5UK so I told them to send them anyway. So glad I did as the 6.5 is a touch big I could probably even size down to the 6UK. So as an FYI these do run big in my opinion.

You also need to wear socks with them pretty much all the time. I started off with 2 pairs as suggested and now I can wear them with just one.

Hope this helps you with your decision to buy some new docs! They are an investment but definitely worth it in my opinion!

Body Image: What is your stance?

Recently over at IFB there was an attack on a certain article which spiked a huge outrage within the fashion community. Even if the original article was not meant to offend it is often sometimes difficult to convey a message via written content.
I personally wanted to mention this on my blog simply for discussion as it is an area that is pretty much on every woman’s mind at sometime of their life no matter what they look like.
When it comes to situations like these I like to play the devils advocate (maybe its my law/journalism back ground who knows) but I am always able to see both sides of a story even if my opinion differs to one side or the other.
Personally I do not read the super famous blogs featuring leggy blondes in expensive designer clothing. It’s not that I don’t like them it’s just their style isn’t my style. I really prefer to read blogs who enjoy things I enjoy like vintage, thrifting and craft. I don’t personally care if someone is (by society’s standard)beautiful, ugly, thin, short, tall or fat. If they have interesting and informative content that is what I enjoy then I will read their blog and enjoy it.
I think at the end of the day, like art, beauty is subjective. What are your thoughts on this controversial issue?

Guest Post: Second Hand Sundays

Hello My Modern Vintage readers, my name is Bekuh and I blog over at Secondhand Sundays. Secondhand Sundays is my little online escape where I share lots of pretty vintage wares, delicious home cooked meals, and crafty handmade goods that you can make and share. I hope you'll stop by for a visit and be a pal.

I'm so excited to be guest posting a little outfit post on My Modern Vintage, and the lovely Ilana will be over at my blog soon doing the same. It's fun meeting bloggers from around the globe and sharing a similar topics but in our own unique ways.

Here in the states we're starting to pull out our fall and winter garb in preparation for the cooler months, while in Australia you're preparing for spring. I've known that the seasons were opposite for the USA and Australia for most of my life, but until now it hasn't really hit me as a reality. Actually seeing far away places in real time on the internet really brings it home. Today I thought I'd share an outfit that is a little bit transitional, easily worn as the weather warms up, or cools off.

With the warm weather still around the sleeveless top paired with a heavier weight skirt still feels cool, but sophisticated. To transition this for the fall or spring I could simply add a cardigan and tights to make the outfit a little more weather proof. The bright colors are season-less and the accessories are classic with a twist. Where could you possibly go wrong? Black and white is the easiest color combination to add pops of color too, I highly recommend it.  I hope you enjoyed the post, and my quick tip for transitioning it for fall or spring. big kiss, bekuh

Floral Vintage Style Dress

Wearing: Floral dress from JeansWest// Black flats and tights // silver heart necklace (gift)
I was utterly stoked the other day to find this adorable dress at JeansWest on sale for just $20! Such a bargain I can’t believe these weren’t already sold out! It is always hard to find sale items in my size- most sale clothes are either XS or XL so to find a size 12 was simply amazing.
And yes the title to this post is c/o Lana Del Rey- totally love that girl!

Is there anybody out there?

WHy I Love My Cat Bella

I took these pics after work one day last week hence the very bad lighting. However even with the lighting and the fact that I look like crap I simply love these photos. Bella was so happy to see me after work this is the warm welcome I am soooo used to getting Smile

So why do I love Bella? Because she loves and NEEDS me. It is such a wonderful feeling when someone loves and needs you. Some people probably feel like this about their children but seeing as I don’t have any I feel like this about “my baby”.

On another note I just got a journalism internship at one of Australia’s top news organisations so I am over the moon. This also means I will have very little time for blogging over the month. I have work, uni + my graphic design diploma and now an internship on top of trying to start my own business so incredibly busy!

Hope you will still stick around though Smile
