Equestrian Gear Flooding the Catwalk

The equestrian prints and themes that riders have come to know over the years have been infiltrating mainstream fashion for a while, but now huge designer names are taking the fashion world by storm with the trend. Gucci, DKNY, Burberry, Ralph Lauren, Valentino, and Hermes are just a few of the designer labels that are showing their love for horse and riding themed fashion this season.
For a non-rider like me who wants to achieve this famed look, the trend has manifested itself in getting a pair of knee high leather boots, sort of resembling their long horse riding boots, to create an everyday spin on the outfit, along with fitted skinny trouser and a blazer – so essentially ending up in an eventing outfit.

I think it is great to see such a wide span of influences on mainstream fashion and how much (or how little) the gear has been adapted for consumers commercially. It is really an evidence of the growing impact and acknowledgement of equestrian sports – especially in light of the feat seen during the equestrian games during the last Olympics. They have truly paved the way for all of this – so we have to congratulate them and we only hope that this impact will translate into other areas besides fashion.
